Liechtenstein is a small landlocked country located just above Italy in Southern Europe. It is bordered by Switzerland and Austria. Its flag consists of two horizontal stripes in blue atop red. In the blue stripe is a yellow crown located on the left side. Its coat of arms consists of stylized eagles, drapery and a crown atop the entire emblem.

Liechtenstein population

Liechtenstein is considered the fourth smallest country in all of Europe. Most people speak Alemannic or German. A third of the population is foreign-born, mostly from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The official language of the country is German but most speak the Alemannic dialect of the language. About 88 percent of the population is considered Christian, most of which are Roman Catholic. Only about 8 percent are Lutheran. There are about 5 percent Muslims in the country. The life expectancy of the country is about 80 years and the literacy rate is 100 percent. It is considered to have the tenth best educational system in the world.  

 

History of Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein was once a Roman province called Raetia. The Liechtenstein family occupied the country from 1140 to the 1200s and from 1807 to the present time. Between that time, it was a country under the Holy Roman Empire. It gained its independence after the Napoleonic Wars. It was under the control of Austria between 1815 and 1866. After WWI, it was forced to align with Switzerland. It was officially neutral during WWII. It is currently run by the Prince of Liechtenstein and is a wealthy world leader.

Liechtenstein Castle Liechtenstein is a land locked nation situated between Switzerland and Austria.  Its official language is German and it has a population of just 33,000. The country has a total land area of just 160 kilometres.  Liechtenstein is so small that it is possible for you to get to one end of it from another by car in just a few minutes.  One huge draw to living or doing business in Liechtenstein is the country’s low taxes.  It has strong cultural ties with Switzerland and its official currency is the Swiss Franc.
